Does anyone make an electric straight line sander and if not why? The air powered are such air hogs.

Does anyone make an electric straight line sander and if not why? The air powered are such air hogs.
I have a pneumatic jitterbug sander that I bought probably 7-8 years ago and I've never used it, never even put an air fitting on it.:)
I have some Surefinish and a boat to compound and wax next week. I'll try it to see how it works compared to the 3m compound.
The compound's job is to remove the oxidation. It removes it and leaves you with a finished surface ready to accept wax or polish. If you sand the gelcoat, sure you'll get rid of the oxidation, but...
If the gelcoat is in good shape, you should try a product like Meguiar's One Step Cleaner/Wax. It's a mild compound with wax in it so there's only one application and you're done. Other companies...
You can't sand and buff single stage metallic paint, well, maybe you can but you shouldn't. You end up cutting into the flakes and ruining the metallic effect/look. That's why everyone recommends...
Martinsr, do you have any basics of basics on fisheye eliminator? Always wanted to know more about it and whether I should be using it, especially when painting boats, since they seem to be "held...
I see you already have a couple good pictures but this might help in the future.
Use the macro mode, which is used to take pictures really close, I was probably 3 inches away from the aircap when I...
When I think of an angle grinder this is what I picture
When I bought my gun, it was advertised with a gold aircap or something like that. Man was I pissed when I opened the box to find a silver cap:)
I have no idea on the J2.
Heres a couple pictures of a 2000 aircap.
I paint outside and the problem with bugs are the big ones. I've had flies leave trails up to a foot long:mad:
I just ordered a POR Cycle Tank Repair Kit for a friend. I've never used it before but it looks like it should work pretty well. It has a cleaner to clean the old gas and varnish from the tank then...
No it doesn't.
Stay away from the Vaper 3 gun set. The two full size guns weren't good enough to shoot primer IMO. Then when I tried to clean them I couldn't get the fluid tip out. It looks like they were possible...
What do you recommend using instead? I've looked and there are too many options:) I was looking at Meguiar's Quick Detailer Interior.
I was going to try it on my seats but didn't want them to smell like Scrubbing bubbles:) I'll get some of the lemon scented and try it.
At that point, the carpet was pretty clean from the Simple...
Unfortunately, I forgot to take the picture before but trust me, it was really dirty:) Since I had a couple grease stains, I used Simple Green first. I sprayed it with concentrated Simple Green then...
I'm heading to the store now to get the scrubbing bubbles. I'll take a before and after picture and let you know how well it worked. Thanks.
Thanks Roberts, I'll give it a try tomorrow.
One more thing, do you have any tips on getting sand out of the carpet? I've tried a shop vac but it seems to be stuck to the fibers of the carpet.
A while ago, I believe on this forum, I saw a discussion on cleaning car carpet with maybe Scrubbing bubbles or something like that. Can anyone confirm this? I just pulled the carpet out of my truck...
I plan on converting my GTI to a Plus. A couple months ago, I saw Devilbiss Plus handles, just the handles, nothing attached, on Ebay. I bid on it and got two Plus handles for about $20. I took my...
Seeing that he joined this month and only has 5 posts, I doubt he has any idea of the situation here, with Len running the site and producing/selling his video.
I own Len's video and three of the...
Don't use any reducer. Just mix equal parts from the two cans and spray. The instructions on the can about reducing are for using it as a sealer.
Thanks for the information, I think I'll give it a try on the weekend. I'll leave it out to dry for a couple weeks.
If it's a solid colour, I don't see any problem either, but a metallic or pearl base you probably will see the effects after clearing, right?
The cage is made of iron/steel and was painted from the factory. Not sure what type of paint. I was thinking it would be powdercoated but the coating is very thin and chips easily like paint. I've...
My parents have a parrot in a nice cage but over the years some of the paint has worn off (mostly from the parrot's beak) and started to rust. After checking the price of a new stainless steel...
Len, what happened? I thought Sata was going to stop allowing sales online. Did they change their mind?
How about a sealer or do you have to sand?
I have no experience with the paint but why not use their Ultra Glow, which is acrylic urethane. It will give you a more durable finish that should be easy to coloursand compared to the enamel. It is...
Check out http://www.targetcoatings.com
They have everything you need to finish cabinets and it's all waterbased. They also have a forum and someone from the company frequently visits to answer...
This is what I use as recommended by Hub at Iwata's website.
Fan adjustment fully open.
Fluid adjustment fully open.
Air valve on the bottom of the gun fully open.
With an empty cup, pull the...
I will check it tomorrow but I'm pretty sure the air cap will have lph400 lv printed on the front of it.
I'm going to buy a tig welder. I've been looking at a Miller Econotig but also ran across a Hobart Tigmate which looks exactly like the Miller Econotig and has the same specs. Are they made by the...
Since money isn't a problem, buy the sata rp and the iwata lph400lv. Test them out for a while then sell the one you don't like.
I have no experience with it but from what I've seen and read you would use a low tack transfer paper. You can get it from a sign shop or order it online. It will only work well on almost flat...
What would be the best tip to get to spray clear and single stage urethane? I think I might try it if I can find something to paint:)
I haven't used either one but have read alot about them. IMO I would get the Devilbiss Plus because replacement parts are much cheaper, it comes with three fluid tips and from what I've read, sprays...
I've only use a cheap knockoff touch up gun and my Devilbiss SRI but I really like my SRI. I have big hands and it's very comfortable to use compared to the knockoff and produces a very good finish.
It should work, at least for a while, but having experience with boat repairs/fiberglass and seeing the location of your problem, the only thing that will last is what Jon E suggested. You need to...
Use a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the glue. Lift a corner with a razor blade and it should peel off easily.
Your method is correct but your pressure settings need to be higher. Use whatever is recommended by Devilbiss for that gun. My GTI Millenium has 29psi stamped on the gun body which will give me 10psi...
What brand was the paint you got? Was it Frog Juice? I have a vinyl cutter and do some vinyl graphics for cars and boats. I've heard alot about it but never had a need to use it yet. It's supposed to...
Target Coatings makes a waterbased coating that can be used on exterior wood surfaces. I'm not sure of the longevity, but it's a step in the right direction. It has good scratch resistance,...
Awlgrip is a high gloss paint, maybe not as much a a quality single stage automotive paint but it is glossy. Also, you can't sand and buff it. Whatever it looks like when it dries, that's what you...
Many boats are painted by brush. I'm not sure if it will work well on a truck but the preferred method is the use a roller to apply the paint then use a high quality brush to "tip" it or smooth it...
I agree that is the best method to fix the problem but mine is nowhere near that bad. I will take a picture of it this afternoon. Thanks.
