Painted the body 5 days ago and now going to paint the doors and trunk lid off the body. Would it hurt to cover the body with plastic drop cloth while I paint the parts to keep over spray off the...
I am shooting the clear now. Have 2 coats on so far and the striping has disappeared. Using SPI universal. Going to shoot 4 coats so I can color sand. I will post pics tomorrow. Thanks for all the...
Its just straight white. Its been about 3 hours and I just went out and took a look at it. It looks like I have tiger striping? Its only on the roof. It is rather noticeable but the rest of the body...
I have posted this on another forum also. Just looking for as much help as possible. Thanks..
I just got done spraying my white base coat and all looks well EXCEPT there are some spots on the roof...
Yes the clear activator............
Thanks for the replies. The tech sheets do not mention using activator but when I ordered the SPI universal clear Barry suggested I use a shot of it in the base. I just was unsure if that would be...
I think I am ALMOST ready to spray my first project. I have never done any body work or paint work before this and want to make sure I am on the right track. I have learned a lot from reading on this...
I posted this on another forum also but want as many replies as I can get. I really want to get this done while I am in the mood! HA HA
I am kind of at a stumbling point with my first project. Its...
Well I am all for saving time and money. Guess I will block out the tape line and surrounding area with 220. Shoot some high build if needed and block it out with 220 THEN would it be OK to block the...
Well this is my first attempt so I am learning as I go. Should I mask about a foot or so past the epoxy line and then just shoot my high build on? Or could I block out what I have now and then shoot...
I have repaired, epoxy primed and now need to know whats next. I taped off the repaired areas when I shot the epoxy. Now theres a tape ridge. It looks like I might need to shoot some high build on...
I think with kirker epoxy you will be safe just scuffing and then going to your 2k primer. Thats what I did and it turned out fine. The kirker sands really well unlike other epoxies out there.
I have been chugging along on my first project and getting close to finally seeing some progress. Today I am working on a fender for my 74 trans am. Where the inner fender bolts on and where the...
Its getting to cold here to do any more paint work and was wondering about the proper way to store the left over paint and supplies I have. I have a gallon of primer and activator as well as some...
I shot some slicksand with my astro, with a 1.8 tip and it didn't want to spray very well either. The tech sheet says you can use a 1.7 and up tip but I think maybe a 2.2 or so would be best. That...
Barry,
Thanks for the pic. That helps. Will you base and clear what you are showing in the pic? Then bolt the doors on and shoot the outside? I just wasn't sure what to do with the rocker where it...
I am in the middle of restoring a 74 Pontiac Trans Am. I was leaning towards painting everything in pieces then reassemble it. However I spent most of the day today trying put the doors back on to...
Very useful info. I am in the process now trying to decide what to do. I am leaning towards doing it in pieces. However I think it might be better for me to put it back together. Its my first project...
Thanks! Its a 74 Trans Am. I tried the duct tape test and it passed, no paint peeled at all. Its in good shape except for just a few areas that bothered me. It looked like whoever painted it before I...
Here are a few pics of my first project. I had a few rust issues on the tail panel and around the trunk area so I stripped it down to bare metal. As you can see the rest of the body is in good shape....
The long story short. Car came out of Virgina. The rest of the body is in really good condition. Floors are perfect as well as the rockers ect. What you see is the worst part of the car. If you would...
Here is the other door. It doesn't look as bad. It has some small holes on the rear edge but the rest of it seems to be pretty solid, alot of surface rust. It is not near as bad on the inside as the...
I am still plugging along on my project. I have the doors off my 74 T/A and they look good on the outside but underneath is a different story. Can these be repaired? And if so how would you proceed?...
I am ready to get dirty! This is a rear assy off of a 1974 T/A. On one side the mounting bolt that goes into the quarter panel has pulled away from the assy. Everything else is good except this one...
I have been reading here for a few months. Now since winter is getting closer I have decided to do a resto on my 1974 T/A. This is my 1st time attempting something this extreme so I may be asking...
