Can I use my stud welder to weld a threaded stud to another metal surface? Can I use common steal threaded rod?

thanks

No, the stud welder used for straightening sheet metal doesn't have enough punch to weld much more than the pins that it was designed to attach.

What size did you want to weld using the stud welder? Henry

It would have been a small thread..was planning on holding on a screen over a hole....no real torque would have been applied to the theads....

Do a test to see. I would "think" it should work if the stud was no bigger then the ones designed to use with the tool.

But just get a piece of sheet metal, some studs, and give it a try. I think I will too.

I would do like he says plus, knowing him, he will try it and report back. I would use the heavy stud made to fit the gun. You could if you were careful even thread the thing or use those one way washer type press on holders like they hold dome lights to the inner roofs of cars. Let us know. Henry
