Hey Guys And Girls
What Sould I Do To Paint My Car Over Old Paint? Its About 4 Yrs Old And I Want To Do A Different Color. Its B/c C/c And Isn't Bad Finish.any Help Would Be Greatfull.
Thanks,fred Davis
If the paint on the car is the "original" paint and is in good condition (no flaking or peeling) you should be able to just scuff it with the proper grit sandaper, mask, clean and shoot. If you haven't a concept of the steps involved it may pay you to check out the Spray Painting 101 Video (http://autobodystore.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=101s&Category_Code=4VDO) on this link.
If you're changing the color you will probably want to paint the door jambs plus in the trunk and under the hood prior to painting the exterior. The car should be solvent cleaned (grease and wax remover) prior to sanding then again after it's masked.
If you're planning on using a base coat/clear coat metallic for a final color then your grit should be 500 or 600 and if you're plan on finishing with a solid color you can sand with 400 grit.
