I'm looking to apply some form of a UV protectant over an epoxy resin base (the epoxy resin I've used, although it's claimed to be as stable as polyester resins in terms of yellowing rate, I think calls for a final UV barrier).
My initial thought was to just shoot the projects (surfboards) w/ some leftover DuPont 5700S High Glamour urethane clear.
But, since these are meant for use and not display, I have concerns over the long term durability of the clear, how it'll scratch over time, and repairability.
Which got me wondering if there are perhaps "inferior" products that might actually work better in the long run?
I have a bottle of some sort of "Polymer Car Wax" that claims to block out 95% of UV rays...but, I'm skeptical that maybe it's just hyped up snake-oil...sure would be a simple solution though.
Then, there are is the innumerable selection of floor finishing varnishes, urethanes, etc...all from a can and meant to be applied by brush or wipe-on...wondering if they stand a chance w/ real use...certainly they seem easy enough to apply (not really a concern), but the touchup on a single part (or air/moisture cure/evap) product may be simple enough to keep looking good w/ just a reslathering.
Scratched clear, over clear, is probably the easiest to hide and make look good...but I'd rather have a uniform, well filled clear.
I flip flop w/ using a ceramic nano-clear, but I think weighing the cost of those and not actually knowing what job they'll do, I'm opting out of them on these projects.
