Can you weld, solder, or braze broken tabs on the pot metal headlamp buckets on a 1970 Mustang? You ever notice they are always cracked or broken on all 65-70 mustangs.

Pot metal is made up of a combination of zinc and lead so soldering does work on pot metal. (the higher the tin content of the solder/lead the strong the repair will be.

While I've never tried it I would imagine you could use a good adhesive to put pieces of pot metal together. You may need some type of splice that overlaps both pieces but I'd imagine that a good metal bonding material would work well.

Last month one of the Mustang magazines ran an article about repairing those buckets, someone makes a replacement tab that you JB Weld onto the existing bucket.

October 2007 Mustang Monthly page 42, the vendor is California Pony Cars.
