Len, I just purchased a makita 9227 buffer , finishing film disks, and surefinish from you about a week ago. Now I see 3m is recommending trizac disks after the finishing film disks with no wool polishing needed. what do you recommend? should I use trizac disks too, and then surefinish, or skip surefinish and use what 3m recommends, or just skip the trizac step and go with surefinish? thanks.

You do realize that both the finishing film and the Trizact are used with a random orbit sander and not a polisher don't you? The fact that you mentioned the Makita and then the other two indicated to me that you thought that they were used together which they most certainly are not.

I rarely go beyond 1500 grit Finishing Film but if the paint or car is going make it hard to remove the 1500 scratches I will sand with a finer grit like 4000 grit Abralon. I use all of these sanding disks (wet or dry) with the AirVantage Sander.

That's fine just be careful because it's a heavy sander putting a lot of pressue on the sandpaper at a delicate step in the operation. That said, I use the 4500 a few times before I got the AV.
