i saw a great paint job in a hotrod book and it was described as a "semigloss".
the local PPG store says that i can just spray base coat and no clear and it will be semigloss. he claims that it would hold up and has a UV protection in it.
what do you think of using base coat as your final finish?

some epoxy primers seem to be semigloss, easily sprayed and come in colors.
would they hold up to exposed environment?
i have sprayed John Deere blitz black and it works great, costs nothing and holds up really well. but now i want some color.

any ideas?

thanks

I don't believe that base coat will give you any UV protection. Valspar has tintable epoxy primer which would hold up much better & protect the metal much better. They have a color chart of about 50 colors, & you can vary these to your liking. Larry

Base coats have little or no UV protection. If I wanted a well protected semi-gloss finish I would add a gloss reducer to my single stage or clear coat. Epoxy primer doesn't hold up well to UV either.
