I've got a SCBA that I got as surplus from the local fire department a few years ago that I use when shovelling out grain bins and was wondering whether or not anyone would recommend it doing double duty for painting or should one have a dedicated supplied air system instead?
Are you wearing a tank with hoses in front of you? It could be a lot to carry around while you bend over to spray low on the side of a car and hang over the hood while spraying. The supplied air systems are usually quite light and offer good protection.

The weight isn't too bad but one strike against it would be the shorter duration of the tank about 45 min steady use I'd guess ( hard to say as I've only used it 5-10 mins at a time) Not to sure if that would be enough time I'm guessing closer to 2 hours for a car more for a truck?
