hi all; glad to find these forums, as i think they'll be quite useful for the revival of my VW GTI
anywho, my question is this:
can Zero Rust brand primer be effectively applied over previously painted surfaces (properly prepped) as well as bare metal?
thanks for any input you can provide :)

Yes it can but unless you have rust why would you want to ? Mooch

the paint on the car is badly aged, but still well bonded; additionally, i'm replacing a door, the hatch & hood w/ clean(er) units, but they aren't the same color. as i probably won't be able to do a proper paint on the car for a year or so, i may opt to slowly colormatch the whole car in primer for the time-being, but don't want to risk rust in the process
and thank you for the quick response :D

If the paint is in good shape I wouldn't bother with it until your done with all your replacing of parts. Just a lot of extra work and money. Mooch

Zero Rust looks good and comes in several different colors but it doesn't age as well as a hardened material when it's exposed to the sun. I've painted several tests that have held up quite well but the sun can make if fade faster than an acrylic enamel or urethane paint. I use it all the time under cars and inside but I rarely paint the exterior without applying a clear coat or other paint that is more resistant to UV.
ZR can be applied over bare metal, primer or paint as long as it's clean and scuffed properly.

great! thanks!
i realize that an acrylic/urethane finish would be best, but like i mentioned, i'm planning a full paint later; i just want to try and keep the car 1 color for the time being, as it is also my daily driver
Zero Rust here i come! :D
