Too much clear?

Is there a problem using too much clear? Do any clears stay softer than they would if they were applied thinner?

To me the more coats you put down than are needed the more chance for problems. JMO Mooch

The problem with too much clear is that IF you do have a problem with shrinkage, chipping or popping it will be magnified by the amount of clear. My biggest concern with excess "film build" is chipping, when the clear gets hit by a stone, the more film build the deeper and wider the crater.
