Good morning everyone,

I read over the "Bondo basic of basics" last weekend and have two further newbe questions and I am hoping that you all can help me,

1) What is meant by feathering?, in filler's terms?

2) How do you clean the first coat of fillers for the application of the subsequent coats?. What I have done was vacuumed the powders of the area and then blow air (90PSI) in the area that I intended to put more fillers on. Is this a correct way to do it?

Thanks you all in advance for all your help. Andy

Feather edging is the transition between bondo and no bondo (where the filler is tapered off to the metal).

What pro's do is just use an air gun to blow off the bondo dust getting the panel ready for more filler.

remember when working filler that you work from the outside edges toward the center (never the center outwards). Reason being that you want to maintain the flatness of the surrounding metal so there are no high spots or low spot in the middle.

You want to make sure that you don't have any low spots that go unsanded. When you're done leveling a coat of filler, you could find that some low areas never got sanded, take some sandpaper (36 to 80 grit) and scuff these low spots so that the next coat will bond properly.
