We are in the process now of buying some stuff from this site, including a gun, and wanted some info comparing a couple different guns. The guns we want to compare are............

Devilbiss GFG-670G "Plus"
http://autobodystore.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=DEVGFG670G&Category_Code=1D

Sata Jet 2000
http://autobodystore.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=SATNR2000&Category_Code=3S

Durablock 007
http://autobodystore.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=DB007&Category_Code=2DBSG

There is about a $150 difference between the first gun and the last 2. How does the first gun on the list compare to the last two in terms of spray quality, quality of the gun itself, etc? The thing i like about the durablock 007 is that it has 3 heads, for different materials........ is it as good as the others, like the sata for example? We would only be getting one gun to spray the base and clear coats. The car we are doing is well worth getting a nice gun.

The guns you mention can all produce excellent paint work. If you don't have any guns at this time the 007 can be your primer, base and clear guns all in one package. The Sata is always a good choice but I'd probably go with their latest gun, the 3000, just because it's their latest technology. The Plus gun is probably the best gun on the market for the price but it's a little more difficult for a novice to handle because of the higher cap pressure however it's capable of producing excellent paint work. Purchasing a Sata or DeVilbiss I'd recommend you also get a less expensive primer gun and save your better gun for top coats.

It is HVLP and I think it uses about 12 CFM but the volume of air is not a published number. If I get better information I'll pass it along. I could tell pretty quickly, when using this gun, that it uses quite a bit less air than some of the other guns on the market.

Len- would you happen to know off hand what the size of the spray pattern is? I used to have a sata rp, and that fan was pretty wide, but the gun was just to fast for my painting style

It isn't really the size of the pattern that determines how fast or slow the gun is but how much material it's putting out. The RP is a conventional gun that has higher pressure air at the air cap and that higher pressure can pull more paint out of the tip than HVLP. This is one of the reasons that I usually recommend HVLP for the novice who needs to paint more slowly. One of the widest patterns is on the Sharpe Platinum yet it's one of the slowest guns on the market....well.... no longer on the market. HVLP guns usually don't atomize as well as conventional but they are easier to control and the result is a more consistant finish with less runs and dry spots. No matter which gun you use most DIY jobs need to be sanded and polished to make them perfect so fine atomization is much less important than "ease of use" so it's usually best to chose HVLP when you have less experience.

Shipping time depends on where you're located but it rarely takes more than a week when it ships via UPS ground.

It is HVLP and I think it uses about 12 CFM

Ouch! At 12cfm it's certainly not LVLP!
I've probably been spoiled by the Sharpe 998 pressure gun and Platinum, both of which use 7.5cfm
Too bad that the new Sharpe in it's infinite marketing wisdom has dropped both guns

Is that good or bad? Also, what is the speed of the durablock 007? We ordered one from here yesterday.

If you have a small compressor (30 gal or less) you could have a problem spraying an entire car with the 007 but it's about middle of the road for HVLP guns as far as air usage is concerned. As far as speed goes it's about average, not fast but not real slow like the Platinum.

oh ok. Air usage is not a concern at all. We have like a 60 gallon air compressor, and it never has any problems keeping up.
