Well I'm painting in a booth that has a lot of dust and I can't spray water all over it because there's some stuff being stored on one side of the booth. So I was wondering what the best way to not get dust in my finish is if I'm doing a complete.
I've heard of something that one adds to the clear coat to suck up the dust when it hits, instead of making a mini crater. And maybe if that doesn't exist is there a clever technique I could use like sponging the ground and walls to make it a little damp?

Maybe try vacuming and cleaning the booth out first ,change or vacum the filters. Mike

cover it up with a sheet of plastic, then hose everything down;)

Cover the stuff in the room with plastic and dampen the floor with water, blow off then wipe down car and right before you spray wipe the car with a tack cloth. Most dust in any paint job usually comes from the car or off of the painter so clean the car well and wear a clean paint suit.

Thanks for all the tips guys. So there is nothing that absorbs dust in the clear coat so it looks a little better when dust hits it? And does it make sense to let the finish set for 10-15 minutes then hit it with the tack cloth? Even on the last coat do the same thing?

I only use a tack cloth before I start painting. Never between coats because there may be a spot that the paint hasn’t dried yet and you will make a mess if you hit it with a tack cloth. Not worth it.
Be very careful not to point the gun at something that hasn’t been cleaned. I am thinking of trying to spray the edge of a wheel well in a way that an air blast hits the inside of the well where you may have left dirt. That dirt is going to go everywhere. That is the enemy; the dirt you didn’t think would get hit with an air blast.

if the dust is causing craters thats not dust thats fisheyes either caused by improper prep work or water or oil in your air lines, after its done being prepped just before spraying base is when you use a tack cloth if all else fails put a new filter at the end of your gun like this one,

make shure on what your problem is exactly it may take many different attempts before this is fully corrected ,or if you wanna be really picky like me,static could be a major issue as well,

as bob said make shure your car is clean before it goes into the booth,
we wash first then do body work then prime wet sand wash again final rinse being deionized water filtered at level7 then dry it off tape it off then wipe it down with wax and grease remover then sontara e-4586 then we mix our base coat come back use the ionizer on the painter and vehicle and its suroundings then use sontara sps spray our base we use water bourne then dry it with a hair dryer with a filter on the back of it on warm at med to high speed then again with sps then ionizer due to the waterbourne drying causes static then clear two coats wet to wet speed clear ipc 21 and wait 5 mins then leave the booth or room 30 minutes later deliver it..
this is the method we use half the time in a semi down draft booth the rest in a open wharhouse aprox 2000sf with the same result every time,if one tip from this helps you in any way then i guess it was all worth reading
