Hello all,
Was wondering what you all thought of the Turbine Systems (specifically, the "AXIS Citation 4 Stage Turbine"). I'm new to painting and therefore would need a newbie-friendly kit. As well I was wondering if I was to purchase the axis system, would it be a good investment for the future? Apparently, I am currently limited to basically one gun (accuspray) per Len's suggestions. But is there on going development in the turbine systems that I can expect future support?
Also, I can't seem to find a Canadian distributor of any turbine paint system.
Does anyone know of one? Or does Len ship to Canada?
also, How do the turbine systems compare to an HVLP+Compressor? Pros/Cons.
I guess what I'm really asking, is:
Are there any reasons why I should pick a HVLP+Compressor over the turbine system? (as I am heavily leaning towards getting the axis system)???
Note: I allready have a small compressor at home that is good enough for my air tools.
Just trying to make a well informed decision.
Thanks for your help,
Ryan

I have not used the Axis system but the idea of having a system for painting that will not create moisture (water) and has no chance of oil getting past a worn out pump into the air line is a pretty good idea in my book. From what reviews I have read the Axis 3 is bare minimum for Pro auto painting and the Axis 4 is the best on the market with the higher pressure which equals less orange peel and a much easier painting experience..............:)

Mine works pretty good, it's an accuspray 3-stage turbine with series 10 gravity pressure feed gun. the only different thing i would get is a gravity fed gun. I have noticed that I generally have to thin everything about 10-20% more, but maybe that would be less if I had a 4-stage turbine that had more pressure to help atomize everything.
I am not a fan of the plastic bodied guns, but I have never used a metal turbine gun before. Supposedly they're plastic to stay cooler, since the air coming out of the turbine is 85-90 degrees. Mine leaks all over the place, but who knows what it has been through before I got ahold of it.
it pays off to have lots of needles/ nozzles and air caps, since you can't adjust for air pressure you have to be spot on. this is a fairly painless process though, I have had good luck with mine.
I feel like I really discovered something with the Axis Citation coupled with the Accu Spray Series 10 Gravity Feed Gun. I tested MANY different systems using many different guns in the last 40 years and never found one that I would actually use to paint a car until I used the Axis/Accu Spray combo. Most turbine systems won't atomize fine enough to satisfy me but this set up just blew me away with it's ability to lay on a single or two stage paint job.
I also liked the fact that you can spray a car (or anything else) just about anywhere then throw the whole thing in the closet. The down side is that you don't have the high pressure air compressor to drive sanders etc. unless you have a small one laying around.

Ok, thanks for the feedback.
I do think I'll be getting a turbine system in the very near future.
I found a couple Canadian distributors of Fuji and Lemmer, but it doesn't look like they have a built in fresh air .... I guess I'll have to keep looking.
Thanks again,
Ryan

Am I missing something here or what, can you not just order from Len's site and get the Axis system shipped to Canada ?

Actually, I asked if Len ships to Canada in my first post.
I also e-mailed to ask that same question, but haven't got a response yet.
Going by your post, I guess Len does. {edit: Got a reply to my e-mail, yes shipping is possible}
Also, I figured if I could find a local distributor, if I had any issues with it I could return/repair it without shipping back out.

Allright, I'm pretty sure I'm getting an axis system from Len, Just a couple more questions.
Should I consider getting the full face mask?
And finally, should I get the gravity feed gun?
Can't wait to get spraying :D

I would go with the gravity feed gun especiially for another $60 it is a real bargain and the Axis 4 is on special right now here http://autobodystore.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=CIT4a&Category_Code=5SPL
For the price difference between the Axis 2004 for $750 and the Citation 4 for $1200 sounds like a lot the Citation 4 will have built in breathing system and spraying turbine all in one box and the gravity feed gun to boot, now thats convenience ! :D

The reason I put that "Special" together is because it's the configuration that I recommend. The hood is more comfortable and has the hose in back of you and the gravity feed gun works better for spraying automotive materials than the bottom feed gun. The only additional items you may want to consider would be lens protectors for the hood AND the Remote Air Intake which allows you to keep the pump in the shop and run an intake hose out into clean air. This gives you a lot more hose to work with inside the shop.
