i just had a customer drop in asking how much a paint job would cost on this type of motorcyle....

http://brantford.canadianlisted.com/motorcycles/88-kawasaki-voyager_460755.html

he will take all the pieces off....he says there is only one crack on the flaring, everything else is in decent shape, just stone chips and few scratches...

the motorcycle is the same color as in the picture...now he wants straight black color with clear coat...

i am not quite sure how much to quote....any ideas....

I'd probably charge $1500 to $2000 if there were no custom work and not much damage. However you could probably get away with $800 if you wanted to do it cheap and you didn't have anything else that paid better.

I should add that the paint I would use would probably cost me around $300.

wow thats a big bike I would start around $2000. and go up from there but all i use is House of Kolor Paint so my materials will be a little more pricey.

A major point should be who will put it back together ?

first, i appreciate the replies...

Len, you are right on the money... i have said to the customer that i could do it for $1500 but it depends on the parts..i want to see them first and what shape they are in...but i cannot charge more than $1700, i dont want to lose the job, i got nothing else to do next week, sold all the cars and no collision jobs :)....

as for the color, i have lots of left over black paint so it wont be that expensive....i will use dupont paint....but still, the paint and clear will cost $200....
yes, it is a huge bike....seems like a lot of surface area to paint and i know it will take time to set the pieces so all areas are accessible for paint..

@Mooch..luckily, my job is just to paint the damn thing....i dont have to put it back..

@Diablo...i dont have access to house of kolor paint in my area of Ontario....what are the advantages of this paint?...

depth of color, Gloss, and Sheer brilliance of the color. The Uv inhibitors in The house of kolor UC35 Clear is second to non. Their kandys are so much richer than other companys. But it is a specialty paint and with that comes the dificulty of controlling the paint/color. The new Shimrin 2 Line has An unlimited # of possibilities for colors and effects

suggest to charge for labor only on this bike?
