I will be purchasing my first gun. I need to to paint small areas, bumper cover, mirrors, maybe the hood.

What do you guys think of the finishline 3?

I am also looking at the Dura Block HVLP 7004 and the astro LVLP.

Need a decent gun is that price range.

I can get like a cheap harbor freight gun for primer too, so the BC/CC would be my main interest.

I think the autobodystore sells them all too.

Any comments.

If you have a small compressor the Astro LVLP would be good, if you have a large compressor and want a good consitant gun that would be very durable I would go with the Finishline 3 HVLP with a 1.3 tip for bc/cc or the 1.5 tip for all around general purpose use. The Durablock has gotten some great reviews and the swivel cup is a very nice feature, and only costs $129 for a gun that from what I've heard has excellent atomization for the price range it is in.

I do have a small compressor, but I only plan on doing small jobs anyway.

The hood or the front bumper cover will probably be the largest areas that I need to paint.

A hood is a larger surface area than you may think, you really need good consistant air pressure especially with metallics to avoid striping when shooting a hood. How large is your compressor? If it is any smaller than 30 gallon and 10cfm@40psi then I would go with the Astro LVLP and even with that gun if your compressor is too small you will be generating considerble miosture just painting a hood so use good water traps and a gun filter when painting.............

Do you think the quality is much better with the finishline over the astro?

It is a VW Golf/GTI, Very small hood. I can always upgrade the compressor later on in life too.

I believe if you bought the Devilbiss it is the quality of gun you will have ten years from now, as long as you take care of it and clean it after every use. With that being said, the Finsihline will require more CFM of air than you probably have to work with and the Astro will require less CFM so if you don't have a large enough compressor to meet the specs of the Finishline gun then go with the one closest to the specs of the compressor you have.

LVLP is much more user friendly when you have a small compressor and just need to shoot a panel or two so my choice would be just that unless you want to spring for a larger compressor and get the Devilbiss.........

I'll go with the astro then. I am not planning on painting cars, just my own touch up.

I can get a cheap gun for the primer.

Any cheap gun for the primer?
