I am doing a restore/rebuild on a '81 Toyota Landcruiser. Lotsa rust, lotsa work, lotsa heartache. My question has to do with treating rust.
I have a spare set of doors with some surface rust and some medium pitting. I sandblasted the pitted areas and went down to bare shiny metal on the minor stuff. I want to hang the doors up in order to tidy up work area. What should I do with the pitted areas before I prime them and hang them up out of the way. I live on Vancouver Island, ocean is very close. The doors will be under cover in a carport, but exposed to outside air.
Should I hit the areas with a rust converter(plasic kote) that I got at napa and then prime or use naval jelly then prime. I was even thinkig about using the rust converter and then Zero Rust. I did the frame with black Zero Rust, it looks sharp.
Thanks any help would be appreciated.
Thanks Jack

If the rust is gone and you're not going to repair the pits until later I would just epoxy prime the doors. I would use the Zero Rust on the inside to seal the metal but it could be used on the exterior if the doors are going to sit for a while. Zero Rust is not designed to be a primer but it will do a good job under most paint products that you put on top of it.

I've never used filler over ZR so I can't say how it would work. I've put plenty of ZR OVER filler but not under.
