I plan to use SPI clear coat, and already have a gallong of it. I am still torn on the basecoat.

I have a color match and line on PPG DBC/DBU both being about $420.00 - $450.00 gal.

My question is, is this the best bang for the buck? If you guys say get it and you won't be sorry, I'll pony up the $$loot$$

If you say brand xxx yyy is just as good if not better for $300.00 then I'll consider that.

I just want a good looking long lasting color. It is a full respray, inside, outside, jambs, under hood, everything so I don't need to worry about matching a previous color.

Let me know your thoughts.

I just sprayed my car with DBC and found it very easy to use with very good coverage. I got my base coat, and wound up buying the rest of my primers , hardners & reducers, from a guy in upstate New York that is a PPG jobber. I bought the base coat for $153.00 delivered. Of course mine was #9700 black and that may have had something to do with the price.
The guys name is Bill Miller and his email is wbmesq at hotmail dot com.

Give him an email, maybe he can get your paint to you at a better price than your local guy.

Hope that'll help.
Cheers!
Steve

I just sent him a message. I was originally looking at Glasurit but was it was a little pricey for me, but if this is the cost of PPG, then maybe I should go with a European brand?

I see that Enamel is much cheaper and I was thinking of clear coating that, but not sure.

I hate this, I always second guess myself and go crazy of things.

I just read one thread on here about clear coating over enamel...... I am wondering if that could be an option?

Enamel is much cheaper than the urethanes. I am not sure what the real difference are though.

After reading some..... urethane is harder paint. It also holds up better to sun abd UV.

I just need someone to also be able to match the color that I have in mind. It is a purple that needs to be scanned from apiece of fabric.

One thing to keep in mind when it comes to paint (or anything else) and that is "you get what you pay for". If you purchase inexpensive products then, in most cases, they are much more difficult to repair should you get a run or need to fix something later and they won't hold up as well over time. Most decent quality base coats will be over $400, the stuff we usually use is about $800 per gallon.

Not all jobs need to have the best products available so each job can be coated with products that fit your budget and meet the needs of the work. If the job is just a quick and cheap maybe a $100 a gallon paint will be fine but better work, that you want to last, should probably get the higher priced coating of both base and clear.

I can totally agree with that. I have a project car that won't be any show car or anything like that, I want it to look nice, but don't need anything too exotic. I am trying to find a balance between the high and low end.

The PPG DBC seems to be of decent quality, and I just got a decent price on it now, so I may end up going with that.

Although, there are some paints out there that aren't worth the money, hence the reason I am talking to you guys!
