MAY DAY MAY DAY - Base coat ran low, can I wait 1 hour?

We take this break in painting adventures by jclars to request a quick answer to a rookie question.

I have applied my first base color coat, and completed one coat with 50% overlap. It is cream white over white epoxy so it covered really well. My wife is delivering another quart as we speak, er type, but wondering if it is a detriment to wait so long (~1 hour) between base coat layers.

I need the extra quart anyway, but didnt think I would use so much on the interior. Lots of surface area.

BTW, does a 50% overlap count as two coats?

50% overlap counts as good coverage. You're good to paint within the curing window. Obviously the sooner the better. Man, you probably only need one more coat if that . I feel your pain.

Whats considered the curing window? It is Deltron DBC 2021. It says 5-10 mins between coats, but I assume that is a minimum. Dry to clearcoat, 15 min to 24hr. So I guess it would be the 24 hours?

I'm goin' for it. Will clearcoat later tonite. It is an unusual 78 deg in the shop right now.

Live and learn. Needed more for small pick-up items and touch-up. Pricey.

Done the deed. Of course I ran out in the middle of my hood, so even though the color looked spot on, I decided to redo the whole thing. Naturally, it went further on the second go round, but glad I did it. Some dry "tiger stripes" I had to work out.

Whew. Almost there. I will give it a break and hit the clear in another hour or so.

Please with no runs on the body (I did get one yesterday that will be behind the heater box.), a couple spots of minor orange peel, which appear to be settling out nicely. Pleased so far.

Last question, should I tack before clearcoat. This color coat must be heavier or something as the overspray dust seems to be greater than the primer coats, as the air is not clearing as quickly in my spray booth with fan at full tilt.

When I spray a blend I try to tilt the gun slightly so that the overspray is directed back over the new, wet base and before I spray the clear I may tack off the panel but not close to the blend. If you tack close to the blend you may cause streaks in the color coat that show through the clear.
