View Full Version : Distance between Compressor and Filter

I have an 80 gallon compressor I am in the process of hooking up to hard lines run in the garage. My plan was to come off the compressor with about a 2' whip hose and go directly into my filters. The main concern is this may be too close to put the filter to the compressor. Any thoughts, concerns, ideas? I guess I can put it further away, just wondering if it really matters. Simplicity was the idea.
It's best of the air can cool and the moisture condense before it hits the filters. I usually recommend having about 25 to 30 feet or more between the compressor and the filter and have the pipe tilted so that the condensed water runs back to the compressor's tank where it can be drained periodically. This helps keep moisture from getting past your filter and into your paint work.

Len, thanks for the reply. I am going to reconfigure my lines since I haven't put them up yet. That's tomorrow's project.

I did manage to get a few water traps in various locations, sloped the line, I hope it holds air. It's about 1/2 hour drive to the store for parts....I've been there the last 2 days and was still short one piece. I would think I had the layout figured out, then I'd change something and be short a piece. With the price of parts at the "local" store, I couldn't afford to get anything extra. However, gas isn't cheap either. The good news is, I should be done tomorrow and give it a pressure test. I went with copper, 3/4 and 1/2 inch lines.
