Pat, the Sata NR2000 is rated at 15 cfm of air at 29 psi. What that means is set your inlet air pressure to 29 (30) psi with the trigger pulled and air flowing through the gun. For most paint jobs turn the fluid control knob all the way open then with the trigger pulled all the way back turn the fluid control knob clockwise until it starts to push the needle forward. Stop there and leave that setting that way all the time (except for spraying real small objects, then you can reduce the travel of the needle to lessen the amount of paint coming out of the gun). Turn the fan control knob wide open, the start turning the fan control knob back in until the fan starts to narrow back down. Leave it there. The coarse setting for most guns is all basically the same (with the exception of air inlet pressure). Each separate gun has to then be fine tuned to the job your doing and the materials you're spraying.

The worst damage on a used Sata is that it's very easy to damage the fluid tip during cleaning. The fluid tip needs to be tightened very tight each time it's installed or the gun will sputter. When the tip is tightened or loosened the wrench can slip and nick the end of the tip. If the tip has the slightest scratch or nick it can cause the pattern to be distorted and you will need to purchase a "tip kit" which can cost $200. Remove the air cap and check the end of the fluid tip, where it comes through the air cap, for ANY marks.

wondering. I tried a couple test panels today, and they didn't come out to good . a lot of orange peel. I think the air was too low. Someone said to leave the air setting full open and the regulator at 40 like I had it. I had the air, setting halfway turned just seem like full open was too much air. Another thing I noticed was that the the needle. When you pull the trigger would drop in the more it wouldn't stay centered in the middle . I seem there is a casket in spring that center The needle. Have you ever replaced one of these looks pretty easy. The needle has a little wear in the middle of the shaft . was wondering if you ever had these problems .or seen them

Thank you Pat

I hate to say it but it sounds like you could dump a lot of money into that gun and it could still be a problem. It may pay you to send it to to Sata and have them give you a quote on rebuilding it but it won't be cheap.

sounds to me like you just need to open the air wide open on your compressor and put it at 30psi with the trigger pulled on your micrometer and youll be in if its just having alot of orange peel those spray guns are air hogs so they need alot of cfm to operate correctly

I had the air adjustment knob halfway open. This is what I was told to set it at. Not sure if it was right. With trigger pulled air knob half open. I set the regulator pressure to 40 psi for the clear coat. It just seemed like with the air knob all the way open. There was way too much air. I'm going to be ordering the parts that center the needle. They're worn out, the needle has a little bit of where. But it's in the middle of the shaft, where the bushing that I'm replacing. When you pull on the trier. The needle drops slightly. It had a little play, where the centering bushing is and where the bump is on the needle. I guess there's no seal, where this rides through the shaft. I don't have another one to compare this to. Does anyone else have any play, right behind the trigger where it goes into the housing. With the back knob off the fluid needle. The needle wiggles, slightly up in down. Everything else on the gun looks brand new. The compressor is was using was a little small. I got a 7.5 dual stage with a huge tank from the same guy. I got the gun from. Just didn't seem like it had a lot of clear coming out . The car three spots down, had a lot of overspray on it. I'll be spring this week. If anyone has any settings I would really appreciate it. I'm spying chroma base. With the best clear. Thank you, Pat

In front of the trigger the needle goes through a packing and into the fluid tip. In the back of the trigger the needle goes into the handle where it pushes against the return spring. No packings, fittings or grommets holding the back part of the needle. If the needle is loose it's a problem in front of the trigger. Did you try tightening the needle packing in front of the trigger?

Yes everything was tight. When I took the packing out. The spring and plastic piece were stuck in its bore. When I got it out. It was loose on the shaft where this packing is is where there is a little slight wear on the needle. It wasn't leaking any paint or air from the spot so I think new packing will fix it. Has anyone seen this problem before or had it happened to them. Behind the trigger, is it a little loose their in its bore. The spray problem of orange peel. Was I was using to low pressure. And set the air knob in the middle. Other people say to lead it all the way open. Now I just need to see if I can get just these parts thank you Pat

trust me these guns are air hogs it takes alot of air to use them open your air valve all the way the only thing you need to worry about is your micrometer keep it at 30psi with the trigger pulled everything else should be wide open
