View Full Version : Help Runs in paint?

Hello I finally got around to getting my guns cleaned properly and spraying. I used my new gun today which recommended a higher pressure 50psi and consequently I got a few runs on the first coat. I sprayed dupont centari single stage acrylic enamel.

-I need to know how long do I have to wait before I can sand it smooth and repaint over the runs?

-Here is the tech sheet if that helps. I couldn't find the answer on here but I am new at this so it may be there.

You don't want to take your runs out between coats. Apply your remaining coats of paint after your first has flashed adequately. Let it cure well per your tech sheet (link posted is broken) then sand out the imperfections and polish to a mirror finish.

BTW, it's not the higher gun pressure that cause the runs. It's too much paint on the surface. If the paint is mixed to the correct viscosity, move faster or reduce the volume or flow. That should be one of the other knobs on your gun.

If it is a solid color this might work if they are small runs.
If the run looks darker it is due to the pigment saturation, this will show even if the run is sanded flat.
