I have a question, i have wetsanded with 600 grit, and under certain lighting angles i can clearly see those 600 scratches, is this normal?
i'm painting a silver metallic, and having read that it shows everything, i'm curious if i need to go to 800.
they are small, so it's not even registering if the guide coat is there or not.
Any ideas?

Whenever I have blocked something with a long board I like to do a final pass with my Airvantage with an interface pad to randomize the scratches. Then they are not visible in the final paint job. Be careful not to use the paper so long that it pills up because that will negate any improvement you do by leaving pig tails in the surfacer.
If you want to go on from where you are now without sanding again then just spray a coat of surfacer mixed as a wet on wet sealer just before your base coat and that will hide the scratches also.

Bob, i dont have a DA or the airvantage, so do you think just handing sanding in a random, circular pattern would be a wise decision?
Also, i was going to do the sealer, but it seems i always run into a slight orangepeel situation, and that is what has forced me to sand it again already - trying to get the orangepeel out.
What do you think?

Talk to Len, he can get you a 3/32 Airvantage real fast. I love that little sander and I use it almost exclusively. Otherwise try it by hand; just keep the pressure light so you don’t damage your flat surface.

600 scratches will be fine, unless its scratches from dirt in your wet sanding water. After I wet sand with 600 the primer is actually somewhat glossy. I dont think the scratches are vissible.

thanks guys, i do have a slight sheen to the primer now.
under certain angles i can see my sanding scratches, and where i did tests with hand sanding with the 600 also.
i thnk i'll spray a test panel and see what it looks like before i go any further.
thanks again,
Rob

Sanding in a circular pattern could cause the edges of the paper to scratch more deeply than the 600 grit. A 600 grit scratch should be fine under your paint.

I know this had to have been brought up before, but when you guys say 600 grit for metellics, is this mean 600 P or does it have to be standard 600?

We usually use wet P600 which is about 380 in dry paper.
