Getting ready to put on primer sealer on the bare metal before the surface primer for prep.
I want to wipe on that de-greaser stuff that gets rid of contaminets. Forgot the name of it.

I know I cant get fish eye with primers (surface and sealer). Should I apply that stuff on the bare metal ether way?
Another question, when applying primers (sealer and surface) for prepping, is it going to matter that I am going to be doing this outside?

I remember in my HS class we would just apply this out in the open of the body shop room.
I know that when it comes to apply the sealer before paint, I am going to have to do it in a paint booth. But what about when doing the prep work?

I have no idea what product you are referring to but as for me and my shop ,and for many years now,i never preclean anything until i am ready to spray base.I wash..sand..wipe off, blow tack etc..no solvents on anything.Prime, sand, prime, sand, wash,THEN preclean then paint.Works for me,and I haven't had a fish eye in over 15 yrs at least.

A lot of shops will prep the car THEN move it into the booth, you just want to be careful to keep it clean during the prep work.

If you need to apply a solvent cleaner to bare metal the metal should be fairly smooth and not have deep rust pits or have deep sand scratches. Smooth the scratches with 180 or 220 before solvent cleaning, spray on the cleaner on a limited area then absorb it off. Do this a couple of times before applying your "direct to metal" primer.

Products like Dupont Prep-Sol (http://pc.dupont.com/dpc/en/US/html/visitor/common/pdfs/b/product/dr/ChromaSystem/H-19295_3919S.pdf) can be used for initial cleaning of parts prior to the repair process but not before applying re-finishing material.

Dupont's Final Klean (http://pc.dupont.com/dpc/en/US/html/visitor/common/pdfs/b/product/dr/ChromaSystemLV/H-19395_3901S.pdf) can be used during the repair process and prior to painting.

You might be able to use them on bare metal. However there are metal cleaners/conditioners like Dupont's 5717S Metal Conditioner (http://pc.dupont.com/dpc/en/US/html/visitor/common/pdfs/b/product/dr/ChromaSystem/H-19298_5717S.pdf), Picklex-20 or something similar.
