My brother called me today to tell me his 65 Gran Sport that he and I did a frame off restoration on is going to be featured in Muscle Car Magazine. We hadn't seen the car since he sold it about 1988. It looks like the day we finished it! We put our heart and soul into that car, we had a ton and a half of passion in those days and it showed in that car, it was like brand new. My brother searched out NOS stuff, holy crap there was a ton of NOS stuff! We are talking all the power window motors, every switch and guage, emblems, lenses, my God he found stuff. The fan shroud (65-66 Gran Sport A/C cars only) was NOS and one of two he bought the other one sold to a repro company, they pulled the mould off of that the repro ones you can buy today.

We are talking RESTORED, down to all new studs and rebuilt rear end, EVERY SINGLE thing was rebuilt on this car, even the speedometer! It was a NEW 1965 Gran Sport.

Cool thing is, the owner contacted my brother who is now going to contribute to the article.

That looks like a beautifuly done car. You and your brother must be very proud.

Kudos to the new owner for getting in touch with your brother to get the "facts" correct.... Most guys would blow it off and act like they did it themselves.

I thought the same thing. I have seen people do the damnest things when it comes to stuff like that. This guy is pretty cool obviously.

Yeah, looking at that car and my brothers 22 Buick highboy I am amazed that I once did work like that everyday. I just don't have the passion I once did, my time is spread too thin.

My brother was the driving force behind the car (as well as the Highboy) and I have to say, he is the most attention to detail "customer" I have ever worked with. I have forgotten more than I remember about that car but he searched and searched (before ebay!) and found NOS stuff that would just blow your mind.

The car had factory air (extremly rare), power windows, tilt column, power seat, four speed, posi, two fours, it has everything.

Beautiful job Brian.
My grandaddy had a blue one but it was a hard top.
How much money did it cost to resto in 88?

I don't remember what he spent on it, but he sold it for $12,000!!!!!!! A Chevelle at the time would have been twice that. Makes me sick to think of it.

My local auto parts guy is named Hugh. Probably 70ish in age.
He has a Gran Sport in final prime. Super straight. Convertible.
The other day one of his customers backed into it in the parking lot.
Man was he sick. Got him in the quarter. He kept his cool but he sure was disgusted.
He's had the ride for years. The damage wasn't major but still.
