I own a 1931 Packard Std 8 833 Coupe 468. It has been in the family since 1958. My Great Uncle owned it before my father purchased it from him in 1988. Dad did some work on old Bessie (that is the name my friends gave her) when he own it until he passed away in 1996 and left it in my hands. Well fast forward to roughly 2005 I had some engine problems and you know what happens once you start tearing things apart one thing lead to another now I am at a full down to the frame restoration.

Photos of my progress are in the link below

You need to post a few photos on the thread so we can see the work, looking GOOD!

Brian

I hope these are the photos of the car! If not tell me and I'll delete them. But just run your mouse over the photo and then just copy the "IMG code" and paste it here. :D

Brian,

Thanks for attaching them and will attach more as I progress/

Yes that is old Bessie in SPI Gray HB on the shell and the other one is the Golf Door with the color I will be painting the lower half of the shell with. The top and reveals and fenders will be painted in a SS Black.

I do have a few question to ask but will post later on in the other forums when I get close to laying down the paint.

Here is a picture from the 2001 Saint Pats Day Parade in Lemont Ill.

From here it looks like you're doing a great job. Are you planning on sanding and polishing? Some of those body shapes can be tricky to polish.

Len,

Guess I will have to since I did the rumble seat lid a week ago and I did one door last night. You can still see some wet sanding scratches at certain angles :o I think Rob said something about hitting it again with the wool but I did and seems not to help. Where do I go from here?

Some of the edges are thin do I need to respray them or can I use a touch of brush?

What about little chips by the hinges see they are a tight fit and from playing/tweaking the door last night I have a few spots that chipped.

The lower right edge of door rubs up against sill? Had this same issue even before I started the restoration and new sills put in :o

Hey I have to say a big thanks to Rob for showing me via web cam on how to buff yesterday. I am no where near as good as him.

You may need a better filter system. There is a dog stuck in your paint!:D

Car looks really nice.

Shawn Thanks. When I was taking the pictures he (Harley is his name) happen to walk by. I thought lets see if I can get him to sit for a second and shot the car with his reflection in it. That one is without flash. I have one with flash also. Pretty neat I thought.

Not sure what happen a double post there. I deleted the second one.

My younger brother came over on Monday and we reinstalled the cylinder block and pistons. He also came back on Tuesday but before we did any work on Old Bessie we replaced the front hubs and front brakes on his Dakota Sport.

After working on his truck we cleaned up the head for Old Bessie and reinstalled it. We put some old acorn nuts back on and put a fresh coat of Hirches green paint. It is not my best but it will make do.

Shawn,

Thanks. It has been a long journey but hopefully in the spring I be able to get her fired up and get her out on the road again.

Still need to get to the fenders but that can wait until she is out of garage and I will have space to work on them.

Keep on Packin :)

Have you fired her up? Man do I love the sound of an inline flattie at idle. Man, there is nothing smoother than that.

BrianI have not.

Waiting for my friend to come up with some seals for the timing chain cover and a sleeve for the crank shaft spacer.

When I do get her fired up I will take a video and will post it for you to her the straight 8 purrrrr.....

I picked up the Dashboard and other parts from the shop the other day. This is the same shop that did all the metal work for me. He did not do the wood-graining he has a lady that does it for him and it is all done by hand.

Here are a few pictures of the dash. Not the best lighting but can see her work. I very please with them and amazed the talent people have when it come to that kind of work.

Some progress on the rims. Have then stained and first cost of Satin Spar Urethane. In a day or two I will lightly sand them with 220 and then put another coat of Spar Urethane but that coat will be gloss.

Once I have the wood portion finished I will tape them off so I could sand the metal portion, epoxy prime, a few coats of SPI Single Stage Black and they should be ready for tires which I still need to order.

First two picture are without flash last one is with flash.
