Finishing film tips

Len and others...........I have been using finishing film for a long time now and love it but I am still having problems with pig tails and I don't feel like a disc last long enough. For ex. a 1000 grit only last me a door maybe most of a hood.
Do you have any tips!! The clear is usually a week old and mixed correctly. I know its a user problem the product is great and I would not work with out it!!

I find they work better on my palm sander which is a finish sander,
and it also does better running at about half the speed or slower.
I also constantly wipe it off with a clean towel as I use it.:cool:

It takes 2-3 sheets per panel, at least. You cant do the side of a car with 1 sheet. I buy a box per complete and usually have a little left. (10-15 sheets)

Hi Brian
I agree with JCCLARK, using the right machine at the right speed can help. I also agree with 88GT that it takes about 2 or 3 sheets for the average size panel if you only need to remove a little orange peel AND you're using good paint. If you need to do a lot of sanding or the paint is soft you could go through more FF.

I was thinking since you sold the job pack with 5 of each disc it would be enough for a complete car. If each panel may take more than one sheet of each grit I am doing great! You can tell I am very happy with the product, Len keeps shipping it out to me! :D

Not every job is a complete refinish :D

I find that the harder the clear, the easier it is to use finishing film on it. The more flexible clears or clears with flexible additives in them are awfull in the finishing film pigtail department...

I have abandonned the finishing film on House of Kolor UC35....period...

Other refinish clears I use are ok with the finishing film unless they are flexiblized then I wet sand by hand...

I use the old sheet's back to wipe the dust on the new sheet. That is I will use the first sheet...then take it off, put a new sheet...then use the old sheet's back to occasionally wipe off the finishing film and surface to remove the dust. The back of the finish film is hairry and traps the dust very well...

I don't get much better mileage than 88 and len either...but it saves enough time to be worth its cost...
