Yes, a tip would work but a 1.8 is pretty big, you may want to consider a 1.6 unless you're shooting something like polyester spray filler. Most standard primer can be used with a 1.5 or 1.6 tip. However is the primer manufacturer says 1.8 then use a 1.8.
