I took my LPH400 that I bought used off ebay to class with me Tuesday and we set it up and sprayed with it. Didn't do too bad at first, especially since it only has a 1.2 tip, but after about 3 people shot their panels it started to leak, slightly, from the gun where the (packing set?) and needle enter the front of the gun. My instructor tightened the nut all the way in and the first time we pulled the trigger back the needle stuck open and bled everywhere, all over a guy's panel and on the floor in the paint booth. I read the manual again and pointed out what I had tried to tell the instructor at first about only tightening the screw down so much, which the manual said to back off the screw just till the needle returns smoothly when trigger is released. I backed it off as it said, another guy sprayed his panel with it and it didn't leak, however as I said at first it took 3 or 4 panels before it started leaking. Has anyone had a problem with these guns leaking paint? If my adjustments didn't fix the problem, do I just need to replace some of the parts? I hope I didn't get burned on this deal, the guy said he only used it on one car.

Theseal may have been just dried out. Put some thinner in the cup and leave it there for a couple hours (assuming its not leaking at that point).
Then readjust the needle jamb nut (the one with the packing) like the manual stated and you should be good to go. If not, replace the seal. That LPH400 Iwata is one of the top guns available today.

Actually I have had the same problem with my Iwata LPH400-lv,,,,if you back it off to where the trigger operates smoothly it ometimes leaks,,,my jobber that also sells Iwata gave me a gun lube sold by Devilbiss to lube the needle where it goes thru the seal,,this seems to allow the seal nut to be tight enough to not leak but allow smooth trigger operation,,,,,it seems to be something on the Iwata that takes a little fussing.
